Illuminating the Experience of Stigma among Persons Living with HIV using Participative Drawing Method

Background: Arts-based techniques such as drawing is a helpful means in research because of its potential to capture taboo, culturally sensitive issues, and other critical health experiences. However, very few studies integrate the use qualitative method HIV research.Purpose: This study aims explore experience stigma among persons living with using method.Methods: The utilized participative approach. There were eleven (11) participants who recruited through snowballing asked draw their Person Living HIV/AIDS (PLHA). men who-have-sex (MSM) have been diagnosed for at least one year, are active members support group. preliminary was conducted Central Philippines from November-December 2019. narrative explanations recorded, transcribed, analyzed thematic analysis.Findings: Results revealed three themes: (1) Psycho-socio-emotional needs which illuminated need love acceptance; (2) Profound feelings reflected plethora negative towards positive convergence emotions, (3) Coping presented three-pronged anchor move forward sustain hopeful living.Conclusion: A stigmatized PLHIV intimacy, interconnectedness, inclusiveness society.
